I am in a safe environment that is licensed by DCFS including clearance from the state fire marshal and local health department. My setting is secure with a keyed entry system and surveillance. I am cared for by experienced teachers, educated in early childhood and trained in first aid and CPR. I am given a reasonable rate for quality care and may receive family discounts or apply for financial assistance. I eat nutritional meals and snacks and sometimes get to help in the preparation. I participate in developmentally appropriate activities to meet my individual needs. I get to play outdoors daily, weather permitting. I can come a few days or every day. When I go to school in the Coal City, Saratoga or White Oak district, I can ride the bus to and from school. I am treated as an individual. I am special. I am loved.

The children are provided with a warm, supportive and loving atmosphere. The program helps children to develop trust and emotional security through positive experiences. The environment is safe and inviting as children are encouraged to develop independence. However, a helping hand is never far away. The daily schedule is flexible and is based on the individual needs of the children. Many small group activities are offered as these children's social skills are emerging.
A stimulating and challenging environment offers large and small group settings to allow children many opportunities to interact with their peers. Decision-making and problem-solving skills are also encouraged. Children are encouraged to practice self-help skills as well as academic skills throughout many different daily activities. All our locations offer a choice of preschool classes that meet two, three or five days a week. A state-funded Pre-K program is also available that children must participate in a screening to determine eligibility.
A safe, fun and supervised place is provided for children to go before and after school, on school holidays and over summer break. Children have a choice of long or short-term activities, help doing homework or just a chance to relax and unwind with their friends. *This program is only available at our Diamond and Morris location. White Oak, Saratoga and Coal City districts bus the children to and from the center.
We believe that the teacher in an early childhood classroom should teach process vs. product. This Step-by-Step process teaches children valuable problem-solving skills that will help them learn throughout their lives. There should be many avenues of learning through experience and repetition. Learning should be made fun so children will want to learn throughout their life. Step by Step reinforces these learning experiences by using a variety of learning centers. After all, children are not taught, they are exposed to opportunities and experiences and encouraged by the teacher. It is up to us to provide a safe, nurturing environment that children find comfortable so they can explore……
